Stella: how was your day, my son?
Veli: It was good, mostly, just a bit slow, as usual.
Stella: and you were working the whole time?
She means this to tease him, but she can't hear the self-deprecating barbs that follow the offhanded statement. She does, however, see him roll his eyes, as if nothing were wrong.
Veli: Alright, fine, yes, I hung out with some friends instead of coming straight home.
Reese: Oh, me too! Well, I didn't stop by anyone, but Inalia was at the tavern today instead of with her father, so I got to talk to her and play with her, and it was a lot of fun!
Veli: Instead of- Nevermind.
